Houston Public Golf Courses, Reviewed
Last updated June 2026 · 7 min read
Houston has five public golf courses owned or operated by the City. They range from Memorial Park — one of the most renovated and celebrated municipal courses in the country — to the neighborhood munis that absorb weekday volume. Here's the honest breakdown.
Memorial Park Golf Course
Memorial Park is a genuinely world-class public golf course. Tom Doak's 2019 renovation transformed it from a solid muni into a destination track — thoughtful bunkering, restored wetlands, dramatic greens. It hosted the Houston Open PGA Tour event and plays like a tournament course. The green fee is higher than other Houston munis but cheaper than almost any comparable private round in the city.
Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
Gus Wortham is the oldest course in the Houston city system and has the character to show for it. Tree-lined, flat by Texas standards, and consistently well-maintained. It's the workhorse of the east-side public courses and attracts a regular crowd who appreciates its consistency. A step above what the green fee suggests.
Brock Park Golf Course
Brock Park sits on the northeast side and is the most practical option for golfers in Humble, Kingwood, and Baytown. It's not the most scenic course in the system but it's always playable and priced to move. Weekday pace of play is generally good. Worth adding to the rotation if you're in that part of Houston.
Glenbrook Golf Course
Glenbrook is the south Houston neighborhood muni — flat, friendly, and affordable. It's where a lot of south Houston regulars get their weekday reps in. The course has been consistently maintained under the city system and represents solid value at the green fee. Don't expect Memorial Park conditions, but it's a legitimate round of golf.
Sharpstown Golf Course
Sharpstown is on the southwest side and rounds out the city system. Similar to Glenbrook in profile — neighborhood course, consistent conditions, practical price point. The regular crowd is loyal for good reason: it's easy to get on, easy to get around, and you know what you're getting.
The math: Houston golf without a pass
Five Houston public courses. Average green fee: ~$33/round without Memorial Park, ~$37 including it. Play once at each of the five courses per year = $165+ in green fees. Add cart fees and you're at $250+.
TrackPass — $199/year
1 free round/yr at every Houston public course (plus 90 more TX courses).
Founding rate — price increases after launch.
